Visiting Kather Mandir
Kather Mandir, or Kather Durga Mandir, is a shrine to the goddess Durga that appears on Ajodhya Hills sightseeing itineraries alongside Mayur Pahar, the Ram Mandir and Sita Kund. 'Kather' means 'wooden' in Bengali, and tour listings describe the temple as built of wood. No official description of it has been published.
What is known comes from tour itineraries and visitors' accounts. A 2020 travel blog mentions a wooden Durga temple on the hill top in the same breath as the Ram Mandir and the Bharat Sevashram Sangha, and says a lamp is kept burning there through the year.
A 2017 travel piece in The Statesman describes something similar: a simple hermitage near the government lodge, where an image of Durga holds a lamp that devotees say has burned for 40 years on offerings of milk and ghee. Whether these accounts describe the shrine that itineraries call Kather Mandir could not be confirmed.
