Visiting Usuldungri
Usuldungri (Ushuldunri in census records) is a small Adivasi village in the Ajodhya gram panchayat, in the south-eastern part of the Ajodhya plateau. Local tourism operators promote a hill here as a sunrise point, with a recently built watch tower looking out over the surrounding ridges.
At the 2011 census the village had 467 residents in 93 households, all from Scheduled Tribe communities, and no all-weather road. Its neighbours include Edelbera (also called Simulbera) and Chhatni, names also carried by two of the springs on the plateau's spring line.
Hill-top guesthouses, tour operators and travel writers describe Usuldungri as a place to watch the sunrise, reached from the hill top through villages such as Edelbera; one gives the distance as about 9 km. One tour itinerary suggests it for sunset instead. Several mention a watch tower recently built on the hill.
