Visiting Paparkocha Dam (Pardi)
Paparkocha Dam, usually written Paprakocha and also known as Pardi Lake, is a small irrigation reservoir near Pardi village in Baghmundi block, in the country around Gorgaburu hill. A 2023 study of the Ajodhya Hills rated it high for scenery and easy to reach, and birds and animals come down to drink at its edge.
Pardi is a small village in the Matha gram panchayat, with 683 residents at the 2011 census, most of them from Scheduled Tribe communities, and it is linked by an all-weather road. Small dams such as Pardi were built in Purulia mainly to irrigate fields, and this one is a modest lake of about 7 hectares, far smaller than the power-project reservoirs on the plateau.
Wikipedia lists the Paprakocha Dam together with the Gorgaburu area, about 12 km from Matha. Gorgaburu, a conical hill of granite and gneiss, is one of the highest summits of the Ajodhya range.

Getting there
From Rangamati
Where it lies
Paparkocha Dam (Pardi) is 16 km by road from the resort, to the east. A local guide, sightseeing cab or driver can be arranged on request.
- The drive
- Pardi lies north of the Baghmundi–Balarampur road (SH4), north-east of Matha. A local travel guide describes turning off at Banshitar and following a minor road north through sal forest past Chirugora village. The dam itself is not well mapped, so it is best to go with a driver who knows it.
The pin marks the nearest village; the last stretch is best asked locally.
